German WWII Helmet Chinstrap RBNr & Steel Buckle and Steel Fastening Buttons Believed Entirely Original WW2 Strap. All is in Good Serviceable Condition. Leather is black in color on one side and brown on the other side. I’ve had this strap and have displayed it on a couple of my helmets for many years. I’ve never had a really good reason to question its authenticity. With some recent helmet downsizing, it is now extra here stored in a box for over a year now. I’ve actually displayed this strap on a few helmets over the years and have always been happy with it. Leather is all old a little dry but not flaking off and leather does not have a telltale newer leather smell, None. Have already verified the stitching is older WW2 era as it is no-glow under a UV black light. Stitching is both original and tight. Buckle and both buttons are steel (magnetic) showing real age patina on the metal. Shorter buckle strap and buckle sure look correct to me. I think the same for the long strap too, real and correct, but the fakers are making RBNr copies with this same number as on this strap so caution must be taken when considering purchasing it. The strap displayes beautifully. I like displaying the brown side out. Proper 13 Adjustment hole positions. RBNr0/0390/0204 marked straps are reproduced so use your own best judgement on it. This is a mid to late war strap and would be most correct on a Model 1942 German WW2 helmet, M42 model, but would also work quite well on a M35 or M40 Model helmet.
