Fantastic example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe (Airforce) Helmet all original 1000% untouched. This example is an early 1940 dated M40 pattern helmet. Complete with its original leather liner and original chinstrap. The original blue factory paint is absolutely correct for this period as is the liner, which is size marked 56, all the split pins are untouched and tight being nicely marked IKA 40. The decal to the left hand side is very complete about 95%. Chinstrap is maker marked and dated 1940 and very supple. Inside the dome has a nice stamp. This came from America has rements of a post home label to the front (this can be removed easily but Ive left it as found). If you require further pictures please ask. Named Ww2 German Helmet KIA W History Wwii Army. The soldier was Gefr. Dörrhöfer, the previous owner researched the German archives and found some info, I think enough to get someone in the right direction. He was born in Frankfurt in Dec. 12, 1913, and died in a field hospital on November 2nd 1944. The hospital was H. 1/91, this is more info than I have usually seen with other pieces. Liner shows signs of what could be considered blood damage. As to the black, it is old and may have been applied in the field, not sure why someone would repaint a Helmet with a blood damaged liner like this but who knows. The skirt of the helmet has the name “D Todd” etched in, and the liner has the name “Wallat” written on it. Wallat is clearly a German soldier’s name, but Todd, and English name, might be the name of whoever brought this helmet back. Exterior is missing some of the paint, and the liner has several torn or missing tongues. Original WWII German Heer M42 ET64 helmet with a named liner. Repainted post-war in a bright metallic purple/pink paint, and interior sprayed with a gray paint, some of which has gotten on the liner. Liner is in ok condition with a shriveled ear and a few torn ones. Chinstrap is riveted instead of stitched, which I have not seen before so it may not be original. Looks to be a prime candidate for restoration. Be sure to check out my other military items!
