After inheriting the helmet, I spent the next 40 years collecting them from estates our family liquidated most of my collection has never been in a collection before being sourced directly from the family of the person who originally owned them or brought /sent them back from the war. As a collector, I was always more interested in helmets being in very worn condition. The history of use was more important to me than conditioned by far. Therefore many of the helmets in my collection are of the “been there done that variety” you know, the ones that don’t need any explaining because they have nothing to hide. This is one of my favorite camouflage helmets. He himself never made it back. She kept this helmet in a place of honor of her husband’s memory and service. She was terminally ill and needed to sell it. It’s been in my collection for nearly 30 years.
