WW2 German Helmet, Restored M40 With Camouflage Cover. She’ll has been found in the ground, rusted I guess, they used filler to bring back the shape and they done it quite well Hard to see on them vent holes which model it is, if they were pressed out – M40 or plugged M35, I guess it’s a M40 leftover of the shell stamping is still visible helmet cover has been made of original German Zeltbahn, splittertarn camo, I don’t think it has been made during second war, I I think it’s the early post war made in Czech republic on original machinery. After inheriting the helmet, I spent the next 40 years collecting them from estates our family liquidated most of my collection has never been in a collection before being sourced directly from the family of the person who originally owned them or brought /sent them back from the war. As a collector, I was always more interested in helmets being in very worn condition. The history of use was more important to me than conditioned by far. Therefore many of the helmets in my collection are of the “been there done that variety” you know, the ones that don’t need any explaining because they have nothing to hide.
