Original WWII M42 ET64 (yes, size 64, it is just stamped poorly) stahlhelm with original split pin rivets, refinished post-war by the Czechs. The split pins appear to have M35 apple green paint with a little overspray from the black. These helmets are very tough to find nowadays, as most were destroyed by collectors. This is an original German army WW2 helmet shell that was refurbished by the Czech government after the war for civil defense. Since there were many leftover German helmet shells after WW2 the Czech government took these helmet and repainted them black (the color for civil defense) and replaces the liner if needed. Many types of helmets were used for civil defense and German helmets were commonalty used for it. The role of civil defense was to assist the fire service and the military in case of acts of war. This particular shell is a M35 so it has the rolled edges as well as the grommet vents. The is is marked NS62 that indicates it is a size 62 shell that can take a size 54 or 55 helmet liner. The number on the inside back of the helmet skirt is the manufacturing batch number. The helmet used to have a fire service emblem on the from but the 3mm holes, that used to be there that held the emblem have been very well welded and sanded smooth with the shell. There are no dents nor holes in the shell so you will honestly like this shell. The helmet you see in the pictures is the actual one you will be sent. The Slovak helmet as used on the eastern front was a prewar Czech helmet that had the Slovak cross painted on both sides with the edge of the shell being painted a sky blue. This helmet was completed repainted with leather pads installed as well as the proper type chinstrap added. In all you will be very happy with this helmet because it very well done. This is a Czech government fire and civil defense helmet shell that used an original German army WWII helmet shell as a base. The shell model is the M35 that was issued first in 1935 and has the rolled edge and the grommet vents on the side. The shell size is a 66 with a “NS” maker code that is very prized by collectors. This shell will fit the Sz 58 and 59 liner. The story behind it is this. After WW2, mostly during the cold war the Czech government needed helmets to keep in reserve for civil defense emergencies. Since right after the war there were many German helmet shells around the decision was made to use the helmets and refurbish them. In the 1950’s the shells were stripped of their wartime paint and given a coat of black paint, sometimes with primer over the bare metal. Black paint was used since it is the color of civil defense. Then depending on the need the original liner was kept or a cheap simple replacement liner was installed. Several types of helmets were used for civil defense purposes and German WW2 helmets were common. Since the helmet was stripped to the metal there is no WW2 era paint or any offensive symbols under the paint. The helmet you see on the pictures is the one you will get. The helmet has no holes no dents or scratches in the helmet. It is a very nice helmet you will certainly like.
