Item offered is the original WWII German M35 helmet with camouflage finish. Complete with a liner, a chinstrap and three split pins. The helmet is a size 66 which fits 57-58 hat sizes. The shell used for the restoration is the 100% original with the makers code SE66 stamped on the left side of the helmet under the flared rim (maker – Sachsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke in Lauter) and batch number impressed into the rear skirt. The marks are partly covered by paint, but are still visible. The helmet is free of cracks, dents or rust pitting. The helmet shell was carefully examined prior to restoration. The helmet shell was painted in the correct field gray (feldgrau) finish. Then, the second layer of field camo was applied to give the otter shell rough texture. The right amount of ageing was also added to achieve a highly believable surface patina. The shell is fitted with a reproduction liner that is new but made to exact specifications. The aluminium inner and outer bands are marked in the same way as the original M31s were. There is a 1937 dated B. The liner, specially created by a professional leather craftsman, is made of the correct grades of calfskin leather and finished to the exact original specifications. The liner is marked 58 but it fits both 57 and 58 hat sizes. The chinstrap leather is tanned exactly as originals to get the proper texture and is die-cut for correct sharp edges. All stitching is precisely as originals. The aluminium buckle is stamped from specially made dies. Manufacture marked and dated. The split-pins are exact copies made with specially stamped heads and inset prongs. The decal will be appropriately aged to match the outside shell. Please refer to the pics for more details.
