All German military went through changes and refinements throughout WWII. This Model 38 helmet represents those that were used later in the war. The Germans stopped using steel liner bolts substituted aluminum bolts. It is a size 68 (centimeters) helmet with a size 57 liner. It has the correct RB-Nr. 0/0250/0201, which translates to Karl Heisler of Berlin. It is stamped “CKL68″ with a batch number of 3981. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from Kelly Hicks, one of the most prominent WWII helmet dealers in the world and author of several books on the subject. For some reason someone evidently put some tape in the inner rim of the helmet and there is some residue of the tape (see photo). I have not tried to remove it. I sometimes use clean recycled boxes and packing material (including plastic shopping bags, which I have found to be excellent for packaging) in order to reduce the load on planet earth.
