Unusual large-size German M42 helmet shell that has been heavily rebuilt : the original liner-rivet and vent areas are plugged/filled, and the exterior/inside are repainted in a green, textured finish. No maker/lot stamps are visible. Great as a quirky display piece or a restoration/reenactor prop. Model: M42 (raw edge profile). Size: 68 class (large). Work done: holes plugged/filled (liner rivets & vents), repaint; some small dings/nibbles on rim. Solid steel shell; no cracks or major structural damage noted. Obvious post-war alterations and repaint; not wartime finish. Scattered scuffs, edge wear, and spots to paint as shown. Liner, pins, and chinstrap not present. Historical Note (short) The M42 was the late-war evolution of the German Stahlhelm with a simplified raw rim. This example has seen substantial post-service modification-purpose unknown (could be workshop, theatrical, civil display, or personal project)-making it an interesting conversation piece.
