Parade Antiques and Collectables. WWII German Army M1942 Chicken Wire Mesh Helmet. A very nice original WWII German Army Model 1942 steel helmet, and painted green. The M42 differs from the earlier M35 and M40 in that the edge of the helmet has not been crimped over and present a sharp edge. This was done as an economy measure as the War progressed. The helmet has had a thin chicken wire mesh added, as a full basket, in order to increase the camouflage effect, when foliage is added. The helmet has the remains of a decal to the right side, with silvery deposit. The helmet has received a knock to the skirt area behind the left ear, which has cracked the shell and wire. This doesn’t detract, but rather adds to the battle-look of the helmet. The mesh is attached to the rim by a series of uniform collar hooks. The inside of the helmet is maker marked ckl (very faint) and has a size stamp of 66 and a batch number 4462. The maker mark is not visible. The liner is stamped DRP and 1942, although it is very difficult to read. The leather is dark and thin, but intact. The size of the leather is 58.
