This one has been in the collection for a while but it is now time to move it to a new home this Christmas season. Its a real combat dog; a fully authentic WW2 German M42 steel helmet, with a very nice chicken wire camouflage applied to the exterior. This pattern of chicken wire has been featured on multiple other period examples of German steel helmets and is a nice example of a known pattern. In particular, this pattern seems to have been used by German troops in the Netherlands, as other nearly identical examples of this helmet have come out of that area. We have kept it as dirty, rusty and salty as when we found it. The liner, paint, wire and have all got the same matching amounts of wear and weathering, indicating they have been together in this state for many, many years. The dried remnants of the chinstrap are still attached, and the original leather liner is in place with a torn draw string. Leather is dry and un-cleaned but still in great shape overall. Please look at the close up photos attached that illustrate this beautiful wear pattern. This makes for a killer and badass display for any history nerd for the holidays.
