Offered is a rare original West German postwar experimental helmet shell, produced in the distinctive WWII German Fallschirmjäger-style pattern. This is NOT the standard Bundeswehr M56/M1-style helmet. The West Germans experimented with returning to the traditional German helmet/Fallschirmjäger configuration during the 1950s, and examples of these experimental helmets are extremely scarce today. This pattern is particularly interesting because it represents the early development of the postwar German Fallschirmjäger-style helmet that would later be associated with specialized West German units. Collector references identify early examples of this type as Bundeswehr Fallschirmjäger experimental helmets (Versuchshelm) dating to the late 1950s/early 1960s. A very unusual and collectible piece of early West German Cold War helmet development.
