WWI-era German steel helmet, believed to be an M16-pattern helmet with the later M17-style steel liner band. My mother acquired it while living in Germany in the 1960s. Features intriguing hand-scratched lettering around the exterior. The writing’s age and meaning are unknown, but it adds character to this historic piece. Shows substantial age-related wear, surface rust, scratches, and finish loss, with green paint remaining inside. Leather liner is incomplete and deteriorated; one remaining pad is hardened, while another retains flexibility. The chinstrap has separated and is detached. Loose leather pieces pictured are included. Please review all photos carefully for condition and details.
