WWII 1930s ORIGINAL GERMAN TRANSITIONAL M16 M17 ELITE FORCES HELMET XTR. DESCRIPTION: Offered to you is this rare and much sought after WWII late 1920s and early 1930s original German transitional hybrid M16 M17 elite forces helmet. Original paint, leather liner and chinstrap. This helmet was created on the basis of helmets M16 and M17 for the use of the newly formed paramilitary elite force in Germany. Due to restrictions made by the Treaty of Versailles the commanders of this new elite force were looking for a way to evade these restrictions. That is why they created this new helmet model which greatly resembled the police helmets but at the same time was different. The differences were in the thickness of the metal, the weight, the leather lining, leather chinstrap and the way it was being attached to the helmet. On the inside of the leather lining there are three small cushions filled with dried sea weed. Their purpose was to soften and make the helmet more comfortable to wear. Written on the leather is the name of the person who used to wear that particular helmet. For condition see photos. Scarce and highly collectable item.
